Type of music:
Downtempo Electronic Music
How long have you been together?
2 years ago David and Andrea met when they worked together at a Melbourne internet company. After moving on to other jobs both were playing in other bands that eventually wound up.  David had always wanted to do a Bjork/Portishead project but needed a singer to realise the vision.  David called Andrea and secLuse was born.
Best gig experience and Venue?
We haven’t gigged yet but I can give you highlight of the weirdest gig I have played.
I was in a bad funk/pop Chilli peppers type group and some how we got invited to play at a Bikie gang headquarters.
The guy who invited us was digging it but most of the other gang members stood in a line in front of the stage with their backs to us and only turned around between songs to tell us how shit they thought we were… good times.
Next gig dates and venues?
  • Gigging early 2015
  • 2nd EP due for release December 2014
  • Oh and Andrea is having a baby in October with her husband, Adam.  :)

Does anyone in the band follow the A-League?
Dave is from New Zealand so Rugby is more his thing.
If so, which A-League club do they support?
I do keep an eye on the Pheonix  (usually makes for depressing reading :) )
If not, favourite sport?
Did I say Rugby already
Favourite foods and drinks?
Anything Asian or anything that is beer flavoured.  Is beer flavoured ice cream a thing yet?

Yes we have local music on our show, like the Phosphenes

This is The Phosphenes song Watershed. Have a listen:

We played this along with a few other songs on our last show. We want to have more Melbourne bands on our show. If you have a band and are currently playing gigs in and around the city of Melbourne, please emails us at ash@thebigheart.co with a song so we can have a listen.

We want to help promote local bands on the show as well as talk about Melbourne City FC. Hopefully making it entertaining and all about the city of Melbourne.

How long have you been together?:
The band that became The Phosphenes originally formed in 1999 as Separation Street. We went through a few name and personnel changes and have been The Phosphenes since 2005. The current lineup has been together since 2007, with one founding member and another who’s been there since 2000.

Best gig experience and Venue?:
That’s a tough one. There’s been quite a few. Probably our favourite gig was the launch of our latest album at 303 in Northcote in December 2013. We’ve also had memorable gigs at Vinyl Bar in Moonee Ponds, The Cornish Arms in Brunswick, The Old Bar in Fitzroy, The Terminus in Clifton Hill, The Empress in North Carlton, and The Fad Gallery and The Exford Hotel in Melbourne’s CBD.
Next gig dates and venues?:
Half of us are playing as a duo at Mr Boogie Man Bar in Hoddle street Abbottsford on 17 August, along with Craig-Lee Smith and The Plymouth Reverends. That’s the only concrete date we have at the moment though we’re currently in the middle of organising a few dates at Vinyl Bar in Moonee Ponds and The Brunswick Hotel for the next few months. We’ll keep you posted.
